A review is given of the theory, and satellite and ground-based data testifying to, the high efficiency of parametric interactions of whistler mode waves and lower hybrid resonance (LHR) and ion-acoustic or ion-cyclotron waves. Some applications of parametric effects to diagnostics of the ionosphere and the magnetosphere are discussed.
